The Secret
I’ve heard it more than once and the sentiment is felt by too many amazing leaders, who happen to be struggling to keep their head above the water.
“If they only knew how much I was struggling, what would they say?!?”
Your struggle is not unique.
It’s fearing your ADHA.
It’s ‘imposter syndrome’.
It’s the inability to say, “these expectations are unrealistic.”
It’s perfectionism.
It’s an unwillingness to accept your basic human limitations.
And honey, you are not alone.
The hardest part about being human is believing that you can’t be.
Hiding your imperfections, acting like you don’t need sleep, time to heal, or the simple nourishing things of life is exhausting.
When I look at this reality, I see an immense amount of human potential lost to the fear of imperfection.
When I say in my newsletters, I’m here to help you unlock your potential, I’m not saying “do more”.
I am offering an opportunity to pause – work with your mindset, internal narratives, emotions, and embodied reactions. In many ways I help you do less and accomplish more.
I offer the chance to step off the scary unrelenting leadership ride of pushing and working so hard all the while fearing that you’re not enough and that you might be found out.
Cause whether you believe it or not – you absolutely CAN improve your performance and leadership when you drop the secret of your imperfection and embrace more joy & ease in your life.
This week I was introduced to more social science that confirms this truth. Dr. Thomas Curran is a leading researcher on perfectionism. I should tell him to stop reading my old personal journals, it’s rude. But in all seriousness, he explains the difference between pursuing excellence and perfectionism and perfectionism is not gonna get you those desired results.
If you are wanting to be excellent, but you fear you’re not, the first step is to start addressing that underlying fear. Your humanness is not a liability. I promise.
Creating a path out of perfectionism is doable, book a discovery call to explore unlocking your potential with more joy and ease.
