The Power Within
During this weekend of remembrance (Dia de los Muertos) I want to share with you wise words from a dear mentor, Richard Martinez. In his career of leadership trainings and facilitation, (and even in our first phone call) he would ask,
“Who do you talk to the most?”
And after a pause he would respond with a deep knowing,
“YOU. You talk to yourself the most.”
So what are you saying? How would you describe the track on repeat?
Is your inner dialog empowering? Is it kind and encouraging?
Awareness of your thoughts is a practice of empowerment, because once you see how you are influencing yourself you can decide whether it is energizing or draining your power.
Do you need to update the track you are listening to?
One of the things I remember about Richard was how quickly he shared about in order to progress in his career early on he had to drop defensiveness and embrace a learning mindset and inner healing. I was also inspired by his multifaceted life as an artist, consultant, and social justice champion.
Meeting Richard was so impactful I penned a note of appreciation right after we met… (If you can’t read the image it basically says, Representation Matters, a lot.) It is one thing to write about the value of a mentor from your cultural background for your masters capstone, it’s another thing to feel and personally experience it.
Gracias Richard.
It is with deep appreciation for all the mentors and educators that I present my next free online training: A Case for Joy & Ease in Challenging Moments: A neuroscience approach to Leadership Development on Nov. 13th.
If you are interested in protecting your mental health, staying focused, and showing up as an impactful leader in this moment, don’t miss it.
Mark your calendar and invite a friend/colleague who can be your co-conspirator in joy.
Con mucho Cariño,
