Emotional Maturity: Guilt

February 21, 2026

Hello Beautiful Human –

Your emotions are information. This is the topic we dove into on last week’s Wired for Joy and Empowerment Learning Circle Group Coaching.

Are you gaining the insights from your emotions or avoiding them at all costs?

The more I work to understand, process, and integrate healthy emotional practices the more wisdom and expanded capacity I experience. I feel so lucky that through coaching I get to create a unique space for leaders to better understand their emotions and in doing so become more effective.

As social impact professionals we swim in the complexity of emotions. Our work goes beyond the basic necessity of a job to survive, we care deeply – which includes heartbreak, anger, bewilderment, satisfaction, commitment, courage, joy and so much more.

There is one emotion we need to talk about this week: GUILT.

I recently watched two different videos by Black creators/educators who mention the issues of white guilt and how it stands in the way of real progress in moving racial justice forward.

There is a lot to unpack from this short video including the negative effects of absorbing history that do not properly represent your race and ethnicity. But the bit about white guilt got me thinking about the many toxic behaviors I witnessed that flow from underdeveloped emotional capacity.

If you feel guilty over the level of privilege or the race you were born into, ask yourself, What is this emotion trying to tell me? And what do I want to powerfully do about it?

Can you release the guilt and move towards empowered committed action?

In my own personal journey, I have come to accept that I am imperfectly working to be anti-racist, and deepen my practice of regenerative, nonviolent, and liberatory leadership approaches. I choose curiosity and humility as I work to decolonize my mind and expand my perspective. I also know that allowing guilt to stick around only sucks my energy from moving forward.

How about you? What new levels of energy to promote equity open up when you release guilt?

As @Kaywiththevibes mentioned, “We need to hire and empower people who have the emotional intelligence and maturity to handle these [race] conversations in a way that is educational, informative, and empowers all people to do better.”

Why February is THE month to sign up for a free Discovery Call:

We are only six weeks into 2026, NOW is the perfect time to get help processing the emotional exhaustion from the chaos created since inauguration 2025 AND create a clear road map to dial into your empowerment and protect your mental wellbeing as the external challenges continue to pile on.

Reaching out to get support shows commitment to uplevel your leadership effectiveness AND care for your wellness. Be the example you wish you had.

We all know that “asking for help” is not weakness, and that you’re “supposed to put your oxygen mask on first” – scheduling a discovery call puts that head knowledge into action.

As we grapple with the many things outside of our control, investing in developing mental fitness, emotional capacity, and embodied wellness will keep you dialed into your empowerment and will positively impact your community.

I am offering a special bonus to new clients who book their discovery call before the end of the month. I personally love a little gift to help me take the action I have been meaning to take. It’s my gift to you to help quite that voice that says, I don’t have time and instead give yourself this time.

What happens on a Discovery Call?

You get an hour of my undivided attention on your unique situation. Are you feeling exhausted and lonely in your leadership role or frustrated and stuck in mental and emotional drama at work? You are not alone.

Together we walk through my C.H.A.N.G.E framework and holistic leadership approach to map out the internal transformation that will leave you breathing deeply, feeling better and equipped to smash through the roadblocks to creating more joy, empowerment, and impact.

Be well, Sonya
