Leadership Inside Out

I DID IT! You can too

December 13, 2024

It is always an honor to walk along side you, sharing my journey.

Today, I’m celebrating a YEAR of writing this weekly newsletter.

It has been A JOURNEY – not easy and I’m feeling proud. I felt compelled to share some of my learnings that you can apply to any big project or dream you hold.

FIVE Tips for you to consider:

1. Starting and restarting is part of the process.

It was 2017 (seven years ago) when I first verbalized my desire to write more. I had ideas to share following grad school and navigating my own growth and identity, but writing didn’t feel easy or natural as someone with dyslexia so the desire was often brushed aside. I didn’t send my first email until 2021. I slowly created a smattering of communications at the beginning of my coaching practice. In August 2023 I decided on a newsletter title and thought it would be monthly or quarterly or when I felt inspired. To be honest I was scared of committing myself. With grit and determination, it evolved into what it is today, a pretty consistent Friday morning occurrence. My 2017 self would be so surprised and proud that I kept going.

I share this background because you may be tempted to think this email just happens. Or that the consistency and ease has always been there. FALSE. Don’t let your mind lie to you. If you have a dream or desire to do something that feels hard keep going.

Take one step at a time moving in a direction that propels you forward.

2. You will do what you believe you can do, not what you hope or want to do.

For years I wanted to share my thoughts and the things I’d been learning. But not until I started to BUILD the BELIEF that I am capable of writing weekly did I actually push forward in becoming the person who sends a weekly email.

Wishing and hoping that something will change or that we will do something someday drains our energy. It sucks. really.

We only take action when we believe that we are capable. Building belief that we are capable is a hidden key to goals and achievement. Sure it is easy to believe that writing a weekly newsletter is possible…for someone… it’s something else to believe that it was possible for ME to do.

3. DOING it imperfectly is better than dreaming about perfection.

Brene Brown speaks about getting in the ring of life instead of judging from the sidelines. If you aren’t in the ring fighting it out, you will never actualize your dream. It is in the imperfect action that that we build the skills that enable us to have the capacity and belief to do the big thing.

I have caught enough typos and errors (after I hit send) to know this newsletter is imperfect. But I also know that it is 1000% better than if it did not exist. Don’t let the lie of perfection keep you from doing the thing that will actually help build the skill you want.

4. The LEARNING is worth the effort.

When you commit to do a big thing, or go after your dream with the above 3 tips you will learn so much about yourself. I don’t have time in this email to go into all the tears and powerful breakthroughs I shared with the coaches who helped me become the person that writes weekly. I can confidently say, you DON’T have to stay stuck and I promise it’s worth all the effort and investment.

5. It’s just the beginning.

This is the beautiful part of being on an evolving journey as a developing human being willing to step into my potential. Who knows what another year of writing will bring or how I will improve my ability to inspire, educate, and compel you forward in being a rested, empowered, joyful leader. I am excited to find out.

If you have a deep desire or dream you want to see actualized but not sure where to start, book a discovery call with me ASAP. I could not have done a year of writing without the support of my coaches. I would be honored to support you getting unstuck in 2025.
