Let’s B.A.R.K. about it
A warm welcome y bienvenidos to the many new readers this week.
We are a community of humans who desire to lead differently, to lead from a place of wellness and internal empowerment.
When we prioritize our mental wellbeing then we become better, more effective, and joyful leaders.
As one of my clients cleverly coined for his staff and students, we need to remember to B.A.R.K. about it. Believe that we are Brave, Amazing, Responsible, and Kind. Their school mascot is a Bulldog, which makes sense, but the acronym resonated with me. I think we all could use some more BARK. Let me explain.
If we are in an organizational culture that normalizes stress and anxiety it requires us to BRAVELY say, I will personally pursue a different way of being.
As we work compassionately with our brains to gain more clarity it is important to acknowledge how AMAZING you already are. Whether you work with a neurodiverse brain (struggling with ADHD) or simply feel overwhelmed by your current situation, please take time to celebrate who you are. (This is a deeply healing process and necessary for authentic leadership).
When we find ourselves deep in our automatic reactions, like saying yes to everything, shrinking in indecision, or being frozen in perfectionism, we must take RESPONSIBILITY for our own behavior and choose to get the support we need.
And finally, in the process of transformation as we develop mental fitness, emotional capacity and embodied wellness we must be KIND with ourselves and those around us. It will give us the energy to continue this valuable internal work.
So let’s B.A.R.K together. As we invest in becoming whole leaders.
Reflection Questions:
- In what ways are you being called to demonstrate more bravery?
- List 5 thing that make you amazing
- How can you demonstrate responsibility in areas you want to blame others?
- What kind thing will you do for yourself today?
